The Beatles -- ‘Be Bop A Lula’

Hamburg recording Be-Bop-A-Lula (2.28)

John Lennon: Rhythm guitar; Paul McCartney: Bass guitar; George Harrison: Lead guitar; Ringo Starr: Drums; Lead vocal: Fred Fascher

This song was captured live in December ’62, during their two-week stint at the Star-Club. The lead vocal is by Fred Fascher – the brother of the club’s manager, Horst.

The song was originally performed by Gene Vincent, and George copies his guitar solo note-for-note. But when the second guitar break comes around 1:38 he swaps it for the solo in ‘Woman Love’ – the B-side of Vincent’s original hit.
