The Beatles -- ‘Cry Baby Cry’

Cry Baby Cry (3.02)

John Lennon: Lead vocal, acoustic guitar, piano, organ; Paul McCartney: Bass guitar; George Harrison: Lead guitar; Ringo Starr: Drums, tambourine; Harmonium: George Martin

John nicked the title from an advert on the telly which said “Cry baby cry, make your mother buy”. But he based the lyrics on an old nursery rhyme called ‘Sing A Song Of Sixpence’.

The “Can you take me back” section at the end was an ad-lib from the ‘I Will’ sessions. It originally lasted for over two minutes but they cut it back to twenty seconds. (Which is a shame, because it’s the best bit of the song!)
