During The Beatles first visit to Hamburg they got together with Ringo and Lu Walters and cut a record at the Akustik Studios, round the back of Hamburg’s main railway station. Also present were Allan Williams and the rest of Rory Storm’s backing band – Johnny Byrne and Ty Brian. For some reason Pete Best was missing from the session; so this may well be the very first time that all four Beatles played on tape.

The songs that they played that day have been open to debate for years and years, and the truth is that nobody really knows because the disc no longer exists. It is generally accepted that ‘Fever’ and George Gershwin’s ‘Summertime’ found their way onto tape, but some say ‘September Song’ did as well.
