The Beatles -- ‘Octopuss Garden’

Octopus’s Garden (2.51)

Ringo Starr: Lead vocal, drums; John Lennon: Backing vocal, guitar; Paul McCartney: Backing vocal, bass guitar, piano; George Harrison: Backing vocal, lead guitar, synthesiser;

Ringo wrote this after storming out of the ‘White Album’ sessions. “I went to Sardinia where I already knew Peter Sellers, and he let me use his boat,” he said. “The captain of the boat gave us squid and chips.”

After sitting on the beach for a week he met a fisherman who told him all about the octopus’s at the bottom of the sea. “They go around the sea-bed picking up stones and shiny objects to build gardens with, and at the time I wanted to be under the sea too… I wanted to be out of it for a while.”

George re-wrote most of the song in the studio, but Ringo still got the credit.
