Paul was trying to write a ‘John-kind-of’ song with this (compare it with ‘Yer Blues’ on the same LP). John was a bit pissed off that he wasn’t invited to attend the session. “But that’s Paul,” he remembered. “He even recorded it by himself in another room. That’s how it was getting in those days. We came in and he’d already made the whole record. Him drumming, him playing the piano, him singing… I can’t speak for George, but I was always hurt when Paul would knock something off without involving us. But that’s just the way it was then.”

In his defence, Paul later claimed that the others were too busy to attend. “It wasn’t a deliberate thing,” he said. “John and George were just tied up finishing something, and me and Ringo were free, just hanging around, so I said to Ringo …
